energy sources

renewable  energy sources ( ENERGÍAS RENOVABLES)

Renewable energy sources do not run out ( agotarse) when we use them. The majority of them do not pollute.

These sources include:

solar, wind, water , geothermal and biomass energy.

SOLAR ENERGY ( ENERGÍA SOLAR).

The Sun helps us to transform solar energy into electricity or heat.

WIND ENERGY.(ENERGÍA EÓLICA).

Wind farms  produce electricity.

The wind moves the blades of turbines, this mechanical energy is transformed into electricity.

WATER ENERGY, HYDROELECTRIC POWER: ( Centrales hidroeléctricas).

Water moves turbines , and this mechanical energy is transformed into electricity.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY ( ENERGÍA GEOTÉRMICA)

This energy is heat that comes from the centre of the Earth. Volcanoes, Geysers and hot springs( aguas termales).

BIOMASS ( BIOMASA)

The use of plant remains is used to  produce electricity.

Wood, crops or food waste is burned to boil water, it produces steam ( vapor), and this steam turns a turbine to generate electricity.

Biomass contributes to  deforestation  and help us to clean forest and reduce global warming.

There are many houses that use biomass,: pellet,or olive stone ( restos de plantas, o hueso de aceituna)  instead of using coal or diesel (gasoil) to produce heat in their central heating.

non- renewable energy sources.( ENERGÍAS NO RENOVABLES)

Non-renewabe energy sources are limited, We cannot replace it. They will run out in the future.

Fossil fuels and uranium  are examples of sources.

They produce pollution.

FOSSIL FUELS: ( COMBUSTIBLES FÓSILES)

Coal ( carbón), crude oil (petróleo) and natural gas are fossil fuels. They comes from organic matter ( vegetables and animals remains) kept underground.

URANIUM ( NUCLEAR ENERGY / ENERGÍA NUCLEAR)

Is a radiactive metal. The produce electrical energy in Nuclear power stations ( plantas nucleares).  The produce radioactive waste.
